Attendees Mandalas are ancient circular designs that have psychological significance for modern people. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung saw mandalas as symbols of the urge to fulfill your potential to become a whole person.
Sharing mandalasThe mandalas you create are messages between the unconscious parts of yourself (outside your awareness) and that part of yourself you call "I". This MANDALA INTENSIVE gives you the tools you need to integrate mandalas into your work as a helping professional and to use mandalas for your own personal growth and spiritual enrichment.
The setting for ENTERING THE CIRCLE:A MANDALA INTENSIVE is Plum Blossom Studio, an airy work space set in a shady, Japanese inspired garden near Decatur's trendy downtown area.
In this lovely woodland setting, soothed by the sounds of a nearby waterfall you will have opportunities to explore
the Archetypal Stages of the Great Round of the Mandala through
art, journaling, and meditation.
Susanne explains
herway of looking at mandalas.
Each stage has typical mandalas and special lessons for healing and for understanding the cyclical nature of life. Using a variety of media, you will create and interpret your own mandalas for each stage.
Susanne and Marilyn will speak on the history and psychological significance of mandalas and the meaning of color and form in mandalas. Case study presentations will demonstrate the meaning in mandalas.
Participants gather bythe medicine wheel
on the summer solstice.
To deepen your experience Marilyn and Susanne will provide carefully selected musical background that evokes the 12 archetypal stages being explored. Susanne and Marilyn will also share mandala rituals around a Native American medicine wheel in observance of the Summer Solstice.
Free time can be spent in the studio; walking the quiet woodland trails of Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve (less than a mile from Plum Blossom); visiting the shops, galleries, and eateries in Decatur or Virginia-Highlands; or enjoying the nearby Carlos Museum of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities, or Fernbank Museum of Natural History with its amazing dinosaur exhibit and IMAX theatre.
